Three Chicks Fly

We haven't been able to see much action on the FalconCams lately because the chicks are out exploring the world, but we are lucky to have eyewitness falcon fans in Cleveland that have sent news about the fledglings.  On Saturday, June 5th, a group of "Falcon Fanatics" gathered at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument just below the nestsite.
We don't know when the first flights were taken, but the fans reported that all 3 chicks are now flying, and they seem strong and "sure-winged".   The crowd watched the fledglings fly, and when all the chicks successfully landed, the crowd cheered and clapped.

Tory, the male fledgling, is in the middle
Another fan reported standing in front of the Soldiers & Sailors monument waiting for a bus:  "I looked up and saw one of the young falcons taking short test flights from one angle of the ledge on the 14th floor to the ledge on another angle of the 14th floor.  He (she) would briefly touch down and take off again immediately.  I saw these short flights about four times while I was standing there….  It might be my imagination, but the flights had a certain energy, as if the young falcon was excited about this new ability -  "Wow, look what I can do!"

You might catch a glimpse of the falcons live at http://www.falconcam.apk.net/
Our thanks to EcoCity Cleveland for providing the FalconCams as a public service.

Thanks to falcon fans Cecilia and Becky for the photos.
